Meeting of Ambassador Ivančić with the President of the Assembly of People's Representatives of Tunisia
In a very cordial and friendly atmosphere, the interlocutors confirmed the historical friendship between Serbia and Tunisia, which dates back to the First World War, when more than 62,000 Serbian soldiers and civilians landed in Bizerte, where they had medical treatment and prepared themselves to return to the front. The President Bouderbala welcomed Yugoslavia's support for Tunisia's independence in 1956 and its engagement within the Non-Aligned Movement, highlighting the friendly ties between the presidents Habib Bourguiba and Josip Broz Tito.
Ambassador Ivančić emphasized that Serbia and Tunisia are marking two major anniversaries this year – 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 110 years since the landing of the Serbian army in Bizerte, which testifies to the historical relations between the two countries, which are based on mutual respect and support. On this occasion, she also expressed gratitude to friendly Tunisia for its principled position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called "Kosovo".
The interlocutors emphasized the mutual readiness to develop bilateral relations between Serbia and Tunisia in the spirit of traditional friendship and for the benefit of the common interests of our friendly peoples. They welcomed the formation of parliamentary friendship groups in both Parliaments, whose joint work will contribute to the improvement of parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Tunisia and give new impetus to bilateral relations between the two countries. The President Bouderbala extended his cordial greetings to the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia H.E. Mrs. Ana Brnabić, and expressed the hope that meetings between parliamentary delegations will intensify in the coming period.
