Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tunisia H.E. Mrs. Dijana Ivancic visited National Military Museum – “Palace of Rose” in Tunis, where she met with the Director of the Museum, Colonel Major Mr. Samir Chemi, and the Head of the Department for Cultural Heritage, Commander Mr. Arbi Nekaiess.
During the meeting, interlocutors highlighted the traditionally friendly ties between Serbia and Tunisia, which date back to the First World War. Ambassador Ivancic highlighted the significant role of friendly Tunisia in the recovery of Serbian soldiers, who, from 9th January 1916, gradually came to Bizerte, where they were treated and prepared for the defense of the homeland. She emphasized that Serbia remembers the solidarity and humanity of the Tunisian people, who lent a helping hand to it in the most difficult moments during the war. Interlocutors expressed their mutual willingness to strengthen cooperation, stressing the importance and need of preserving a culture of memory.
After a cordial and friendly conversation, Ambassador Ivancic visited the Museum as well as the place where in 2014, during the official visit of the former President of the Republic of Serbia H.E. Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, an olive tree was planted as a symbol of Serbian-Tunisian friendship.
